Nasty C is not chasing anything anymore, and "Big Timing" proves it

There's a particular kind of confidence that only comes from having done the work. Not the loud, performative kind, but the quiet, grounded assurance of someone who looked at a dream, built it with their hands, and now stands inside it. That's the energy Nasty C brings to "Big Timing," his latest single featuring Durban-born collaborator Tellaman, lifted from the FREE Deluxe project.

The track is many things at once: a celebration, a reflection, and a statement of position. Built on sleek production with melodic textures that move with control and polish, "Big Timing" captures what it feels like to have arrived without losing sight of the road that got you there.

"I was in a very clear space when I made 'Big Timing,'" Nasty C shares. "I wanted something that felt celebratory, but not empty. It is confidence, but it is also gratitude. It is me looking around and realising that the people I started with are still here, and that we are not just surviving anymore. We are moving properly now."

That sense of shared elevation is baked into the record's DNA. Tellaman, a longtime collaborator and, by Nasty C's own account, a brother, brings star power and genuine chemistry to the track. The pair, who came up together in the Durban music scene before building careers with continental reach, sound effortless together. Their dynamic isn't manufactured; it's the product of years of studio sessions, shared stages, and a friendship that predates their fame.

"Tellaman is a very old friend. We came together in the industry and spent a lot of time in the studio. It was only natural that he would do a song with me on the FREE Deluxe project. 'Big Timing' was the perfect song for us to do," says Nasty C.

As the lead single from FREE Deluxe, an expansion of the acclaimed FREE project, "Big Timing" doesn't feel like a promotional exercise. It feels like an honest document of where two artists are right now: grown, grounded, and moving with intention.

"At this point in my career, I am not chasing validation the same way," Nasty C explains. "I know what I have built, I know what I have survived, and I know where I am going."

For a generation of young South Africans who grew up watching Nasty C ascend from Durban rap prodigy to continental heavyweight, "Big Timing" isn't just a song, it's evidence. Proof that the vision was never too big. That the timing, as it turns out, would always align.
