For One Night a Week, 340ml Becomes 330ml -Inside Windhoek's Unusual New Collaboration
Brand collaborations tend to follow a predictable script: a logo swap, a limited can design, maybe a co-branded playlist. Windhoek Lager's new partnership with veteran South African band 340ml skips that script entirely and does something much stranger and more memorable for the length of the campaign, the band is temporarily changing its name to 330ml.
Likers of Things

The trigger for the collaboration is the return of Windhoek's much-loved 330ml Lager bottle, a format consumers had specifically been asking to see back on shelves. Rather than market that return in isolation, Windhoek went looking for a cultural partner whose story naturally rhymed with its own and found it in 340ml, a band whose four members recently reunited to start performing live again after time apart.

The parallel is the whole pitch: Windhoek is bringing back a familiar, missed format; 340ml is bringing back a familiar, missed live experience. Both stories are fundamentally about the value of something authentic returning to public life. "Windhoek and 340ml share a belief in keeping things real," says Keval Ramraj, Marketing Manager at Windhoek Beer South Africa. "The return of our 330ml Lager bottle coincided with the return of four musicians whose music has always felt honest and unmistakably their own. That gave us the opportunity to create a collaboration grounded in a genuine cultural connection."

The partnership isn't just a name change it's anchored by a new ongoing platform called Midweek Sessions, a series of intimate live-music evenings designed to nudge South Africans toward making time for music and connection outside the traditional weekend window. The first session takes place on Wednesday, 9 September, at Katy's Palace Bar in Kramerville, where the newly-renamed 330ml will play a full live set.
For longtime fans, the show is a genuine opportunity to catch one of South Africa's most distinctive and enduring bands back in a live setting, building on the momentum of their return to performing this year. Guitarist Tiago Correia-Paulo frames the collaboration as a natural extension of that momentum rather than a marketing gimmick bolted on top of it: "Becoming 330ml for a while felt like a natural fit for this collaboration. Windhoek is bringing back a Lager format that people know and have missed, while we are building on the energy of performing together again. It gives us a fresh way to connect with audiences through music and bring two authentic stories together."

Importantly, nothing about the band itself is actually changing same four musicians, same creative chemistry, same commitment to a sound that's always resisted easy categorisation. Only the name, and only for a while.
Fans hoping to attend one of the Midweek Sessions can enter to win tickets by sharing their own content a video or image capturing what a midweek beer means to them and tagging @WindhoekBeerSA. Windhoek's 330ml bottle, for what it's worth, is back on shelves permanently. The band's new name is the only limited-edition part of the equation.
