Langa King Drops "Heaven" After Winning The First Note
The first winner of The First Note -Y's smartphone-only talent search built to lower the barrier to entry for South African musicians has just released his debut single, and it's a big, soulful step up.

"Heaven" is an Afro-House track about reaching for something bigger when everyday life feels like too much too many thoughts, too much noise and finding release on the dancefloor instead. It's the kind of song built for a full-room singalong: spiritual without being heavy-handed, danceable without losing the emotional core.
For Y, the release is proof of concept for a format built specifically to catch talent that traditional gatekeeping might miss all a contestant needs is a phone and a voice. "The First Note Season 1 was more than just a competition; it was a cultural movement," says Gcobisa Codi Dinca, Y's Head of Music and Curation. David Gresham Entertainment's Andrew Mitchley calls Langa King "Africa's largest next superstar" a big claim, but "Heaven" makes a decent case for it.
