A Sauvignon Blanc from Darling and a Cap Classique from Wellington both scored 96 points and were called "superlative, world-class." We're taking notes.
KWV has been winning medals at the Investec Trophy Wine Show for every single one of its 25 editions. That kind of consistency is either the result of very good luck or very good winemaking. It is, evidently, the latter.
At this year's competition held on 8 June in Paarl the South African producer claimed 11 medals in total and was once again named among the 10 Most Successful Producers. The two standouts were the KWV Cathedral Cellar Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and the Laborie Cap Classique Blanc de Blancs 2020, both scoring 96 points out of 100 and earning the show's highest descriptor: "superlative, world-class."

The Sauvignon Blanc sourced from two Darling vineyards with each fermentation batch inoculated with a specifically selected yeast strain also ranked in the top three for best-value wines at the show. The Cap Classique, made from a single Chardonnay block in Wellington and divided into four batches harvested at different times, placed in the top three of its category overall.
The judging panel was chaired by Michael Fridjhon and included international names Oz Clarke OBE, Heidi Mäkinen MW and Kenichi Ohashi MW. When this panel calls something world-class, it is worth paying attention.
