Africa Creator Festival Returns for Fourth Edition in Johannesburg

The Africa Creator Festival will return to Johannesburg for its fourth edition, taking place on 3 and 5 September 2026. The event brings together creators, brands, platforms and industry leaders to discuss the growing role of creators within the marketing and communications industry.

As brands continue to shift toward social-first strategies, creators have become central to how companies build relevance and connect with audiences. Their influence now extends past social media posts into brand storytelling, sponsorships, entertainment, commerce and broader marketing campaigns.

This year's programme is split into two separate events. MatchDay, a Sports Summit, will take place on Thursday, 3 September, followed by the main Africa Creator Festival on Saturday, 5 September, under the theme "Going Pro."

Since launching, the festival has hosted more than 800 influencers and creators, along with over 20 participating brands. Past editions have included masterclasses, panel discussions and networking opportunities for creators and brands to connect directly.

"The creator economy is becoming an increasingly important part of the broader marketing and business landscape," said festival founder Jolene Roelofse. "Creators are no longer simply producing content for brands. They are building communities, shaping culture and developing businesses of their own."

MatchDay: Sport and the Creator Economy

MatchDay will focus on the intersection of sport, fandom and digital media. The summit will bring together sporting bodies, athletes, agents, brands and creators to discuss how digital platforms are changing the way sport is experienced and shared in Africa.

Discussion topics will include the growth of women's sport, athletes as content creators, fan engagement and how sponsorship models are shifting. Heineken and Unilever will offer brand perspectives, while SAFA and NBA Africa will provide insight from within professional sport.

MatchDay will be held at the NBA Africa Offices in the Discovery Building, Sandhurst.

Africa Creator Festival: Going Pro

The main event on 5 September will focus on helping creators build sustainable businesses. Sessions will cover monetisation, audience growth, brand partnerships and the use of artificial intelligence tools in content creation. Masterclasses will be led by industry specialists, including representatives from YouTube and TikTok.

The event will also include a Content Hub, an on-site production space where creators can produce content and connect directly with brand representatives.

The Africa Creator Festival will be held at Focus Rooms in Modderfontein. The event is restricted to attendees aged 18 and older, and pre-registration with a valid ticket is required. Tickets are available through Quicket.

The Palace of the Lost City has spent over three decades building a reputation on legendary architecture, royal-scale hospitality and deeply immersive guest experiences. Its newest addition, Plume Jazz Lounge, which opened its doors on 29 August after six months of development, is a deliberate next step in that story — a dedicated venue built specifically around live jazz, considered dining and curated evening entertainment.

There's a particular kind of Cape Winelands calm that's hard to replicate anywhere else — and for 13 days this September, Hyde Park Corner is giving it a genuine attempt. Babylonstoren in Bloom, running from 2 to 14 September in the centre's Centre Court, marks the celebrated Franschhoek farm's first-ever activation inside a shopping centre, and it's a considerably more ambitious undertaking than a simple pop-up stand.

Some community events grow by accident. The Pink Run at Rosebank Mall has grown by design and the numbers tell the story clearly. What started as a modest gathering of around 900 people in 2023 pulled in 3,100 participants last year, raising R66,000 for CANSA in the process. This year, organisers aren't just hoping to build on that they've set an explicit, public target: 3,500 runners and R100,000 raised for this year's beneficiary, breast health organisation I Love Boobies.

There was a time when Strictly Soul was, at its core, a night out a well-curated evening built around a shared love of R&B. That era is officially over. What's replaced it is something closer to a cultural infrastructure project: a platform spanning cities, formats and now continents, all built on the same founding idea that R&B deserves the kind of dedicated, considered stage that other genres have long taken for granted.

The conversation around women in South African technology has shifted in recent years from whether women would get a seat at the table to what they're already building once there.
