Likers of Things in convo with Londeka Buthelezi-Ndaba founder of Malondie
The beginning of Malondie looked very different to what people see today.
Likers of Things

1. Before we get into Malondie SS26, take us back for a second. What did the very beginning of Malondie look like, and is there a piece of that original spark still alive in the brand today?
The beginning of Malondie looked very different to what people see today. There were no grand runways or elaborate productions, just a dream, a sketchbook, and a determination to create something meaningful.
What's beautiful is that the heart of Malondie hasn't changed. I've always believed fashion should make people feel something. Every collection still begins with a story, and every garment is designed with the hope that the woman wearing it sees a little more of herself in it.
That original spark is still very much alive; it's simply grown into something much bigger.

2. When you think about the young girl who first fell in love with fashion, what would you want to tell her now, seeing what Malondie has become and where SS26 is taking it?
I'd tell her to trust herself a little more. There will be moments where she'll wonder if she's dreaming too big or taking too long, but every step is preparing her for something she can't yet imagine.
The message behind this collection, Follow Your Glow, is something I wish I'd understood much earlier in life. We spend so much time searching for reassurance from the world around us, when in reality, the brightest light we'll ever carry is our own.
I'd tell that young girl to keep creating, keep believing and never let doubt become louder than purpose.
3. When you close your eyes and picture guests walking into the SS26 reveal, what do you want them to feel the moment they arrive before they even see a single garment?
I want them to feel like the world around them instantly illuminated. Long before the first model walks onto the runway, I want the atmosphere to invite people to slow down, to be present and to experience something with all their senses.
The essence of the partnership between Malondie and Vaseline Cera Glow will play out beautifully on the 29th of August as we have considered every detail carefully. This fashion experience is an invitation to love yourself from the way you carry yourself, to showing your skin deep love and experiencing fashion that makes you feel like you can command the room.
It’s more than unveiling a collection, it's about creating a feeling, a reminder of The Power of She.

4. Skin confidence and personal style go hand in hand. What does your own relationship with confidence look like day to day, and how did that shape the Vaseline Cera Glow partnership?
I've realised over the years that confidence isn't something I put on when I get dressed, it's something I build long before that. Your skin is the first layer of every outfit. When you feel good in your own skin, everything else sits differently.
A beautifully tailored garment feels even more luxurious when it's worn by someone who feels comfortable and confident in themselves. That's why this partnership felt so natural.
At Malondie, we pay attention to every detail because we believe elegance is intentional. Vaseline Cera Glow shares that same philosophy through skincare that helps your skin thrive and glow, making it an authentic part of the story we're telling this season rather than simply a collaboration alongside it.
The partnership is built on common idea, the confidence is crafted from the inside out.
5. Is there a woman in your own life someone real, not abstract, who you kept thinking about while designing SS26? What would you want her to feel wearing this collection?
I kept thinking about my grandmother and my fondest childhood memories where I spent time in her garden in KwaZulu-Natal, watching fireflies appear at night and flowers bloom with the morning sun.
Those moments stayed with me long after I grew up, and they've become the emotional foundation of this collection.
If she were wearing SS26, I'd want her to feel honoured. I'd want her to see that something as simple as those childhood memories has inspired a collection that celebrates women whose strength often shines quietly, yet leaves a lasting impact.
6. Designing a collection can be deeply personal. Was there a moment during this process where you doubted yourself, and how did you push through it to get to what SS26 has become?
Every collection reaches a point where you ask yourself whether you've truly captured the feeling you set out to create. That's part of being a creative, you care deeply about getting it right.
What helped me was being surrounded by people and partners who understood the vision from the very beginning. Having Vaseline Cera Glow involved in the creative journey meant we weren't simply discussing a runway show; we were building a shared narrative around self-care, confidence and celebrating women.
That alignment gave me the freedom to stay true to the collection instead of chasing what I thought people might expect.
7. Self-belief and quiet confidence aren’t things people are just born with they’re often earned. What’s a moment in your own journey where you had to choose belief in yourself, even when it was hard?
Starting your own business will always ask you to believe in yourself before anyone else does. There were moments where the vision felt much bigger than the resources I had at the time, but I never wanted to build a brand based on fear or limitation.
I chose to keep moving, to keep learning and to trust that consistency would eventually speak louder than uncertainty.
Looking back, I realise those moments shaped me far more than the easy ones ever could.

8. As a woman building something this big in South African fashion, what does Women’s Month mean to you personally this year, not just as a founder, but as a woman navigating your own path?
This Women's Month feels like a reminder to pause and appreciate the women who quietly shape our lives every day. It's easy to celebrate the big achievements, but I'm just as grateful for the women who encouraged me, challenged me and believed in me long before there was a runway or a fashion show.
This season is ultimately about recognising the light we all carry. Whether you're raising a family, building a business, starting over or chasing a dream, every woman has something unique to offer the world.
I hope this Women's Month encourages women to honour their own journey, celebrate one another and never lose sight of their own light. That they have the freedom to let their light shine in every room they enter into, confidently and unapologetically.
