Nedbank’s YouthX Lives Masterclasses Hand Students The Keys To Networking

From UJ to the University of Limpopo, young entrepreneurs shared a simple lesson: success is rarely built alone. At the University of Johannesburg and the University of Limpopo, students recently got an education that no lecture hall usually offers: how to build a network, a name and an edge.

The YouthX Lives masterclasses, part of Nedbank’s YouthX platform and its “Giving the Youth the Keys” initiative, brought entrepreneurs and creatives together with young people hungry for practical advice.

Content creator, entrepreneur and presenter Amahle-Imvelo Jaxa, known as Jaxx Amahle, moderated a conversation titled “Get Your People”. It explored how relationships and community open doors to knowledge, mentorship and opportunity. She was joined by Tamia Nontsikelelo Mokoena, founder of Tol’thema, and Ntokozo “Melo” Ntleko, the award-winning founder of Takkie Wash SA. Luvuyo Mthimkulu, Nedbank’s Senior Marketing Manager: Brand Strategy, also joined the panel. Together they shared candid lessons on building businesses and handling setbacks. Their message: build genuine relationships, and be willing to create opportunities for others too.

The series continued at the University of Limpopo under the theme “Get Your People + Get Your Idea”. Moderated by Ndavi Nokeri, Miss South Africa 2022, model and investment professional, the session featured Nedbank Sponsorship Manager for Football and Youth Mpho Jasone, Tshepo Mohlala of Tshepo Jeans and Mokoena again. They unpacked three ideas: Get Your People, Get Your Name and Get Your Edge. Jasone spoke on community, Mohlala challenged students to consider what they want to be known for, and Mokoena focused on staying ready when opportunity knocks.

The initiative went beyond conversation. Selected students engaged directly with entrepreneurs, and two won job-shadowing placements with Mohlala and Mokoena for a first-hand look at running a business. The sessions closed with entertainment, prizes and photos with the speakers.

The YouthX conversation moves to YX26 at Constitution Hill on 21 November 2026. Tickets are available via Webtickets.
