SofnFree Reframes Haircare From the Roots Up
There's a particular kind of intellectual satisfaction in watching an industry correct a blind spot, and haircare has just had one pointed out to it: for all the attention lavished on strands, split ends and shine, the scalp the actual origin point of hair has largely been treated as an afterthought. Sofnfree wants to change that.
Likers of Things

At a gathering of media, creators and industry guests at Shepstone Gardens, the brand unveiled its new Hyaluronic Care range, alongside a preview of the consumer campaign that will carry the concept forward over the coming months. The event's framing question: what if your haircare routine started where your hair does?

The range's premise draws a deliberate parallel to skincare culture, where hydration has long been treated as a science rather than an afterthought serums, humectants and moisture-locking formulas are now standard vocabulary for anyone with a bathroom shelf. SofnFree is importing that same vocabulary, and that same rigour, into scalp care.
The logic holds up under scrutiny: if the scalp is skin which, dermatologically, it is then treating it as a separate category from the rest of one's skincare regimen was always somewhat arbitrary. The new range positions moisture and hydration as foundational to hair health rather than incidental to it, treating "good hair days" as downstream of scalp condition rather than a matter of styling alone.

The Hyaluronic Care line comprises five products designed to work as a system rather than standalone fixes:
Hyaluronic Scalp and Hair Serum
Refresher Spray
Replenishing Conditioner
Hydrating Shampoo
Scalp and Hair Wipes (a genuinely new addition to the category)

Together, they're built around a simple proposition: hydration applied at the source, rather than patched in further down the hair shaft.
The Johannesburg unveiling was designed as an opening chapter rather than the whole story. Over the next three months, SofnFree will run a national consumer competition, culminating in an all-inclusive retreat at a location the brand is keeping under wraps a structure that rewards sustained engagement with the range rather than a single purchase moment.

"For SofnFree, the launch represents more than a new product range," said Lerato Selepe Tikwayo, SofnFree's Marketing Manager. "It is an invitation for women to reconsider the rituals they already have and the parts of their beauty routine they may have been overlooking. A healthy scalp is the foundation of good hair."
SofnFree's pitch is, at its core, a reframe: hair health isn't a matter of what happens at the ends, but what's cultivated at the root literally and conceptually. As the brand takes its Hyaluronic Acid conversation nationwide, the message it's betting on is straightforward enough to stick: the scalp is part of your hair story too.
