EmpowaWomen Marks a Decade of Impact With the Launch of "City of Her"

EmpowaWomen is celebrating ten years of work in women's leadership with the launch of a new initiative, City of Her, designed to connect women with the networks, insights and economic opportunities needed to grow their influence and their enterprises.

City of Her will be introduced at the 10th Annual EmpowaWomen Leadership Summit on Saturday, 29 August 2026, at EmpowaWorx House in Randburg. Held under the theme "Leading Fearlessly," the summit is expected to bring together entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives and emerging leaders focused on advancing women's participation in the economy.

Rather than a single-day event, City of Her is positioned as an ongoing community one intended to give women continued access to strategic relationships, funding and markets, alongside opportunities to sharpen their leadership skills over time.

This year's programme spans a wide range of focus areas, including the green economy, energy and sustainability, governance and boards, communications and media, and entrepreneurship and innovation funding. The intention is to connect attendees with practical insights and cross-sector networks that support tangible progress rather than one-off inspiration.

Bonnie Maponya, Acting Managing Executive of EmpowaWomen, described City of Her as a step toward building a lasting ecosystem where women are connected not just inspired by the relationships and knowledge needed to advance.

Over the past ten years, EmpowaWomen has built a track record of convening leaders across sectors to strengthen women's leadership and support inclusive economic growth. City of Her is presented as the next stage of that work, aiming to mobilise a new generation of women to lead industries, build enterprises, and shape a more inclusive economic future.

The summit will also offer media partners access to interviews, human-interest stories and executive insights tied to the themes of leadership, entrepreneurship, technology and access to opportunity.
