The Source Collective Brings a New Kind of Afro Tech Experience to Johannesburg

Get ready, Johannesburg a bold new event is landing on the city's electronic music calendar. The Source Collective touches down at Sognage on Friday, 9 October, promising something well beyond your average DJ set.

Likers of Things

Billed as an immersive audiovisual experience, The Source Collective turns each performance into a cinematic journey, where music, lighting, visuals and storytelling are woven together in real time. Rather than looping generic visuals behind a DJ booth, every artist performs inside a custom-built narrative world designed specifically around their set closer to stepping into a film than a typical night out.

More Than a Party

The team behind the event describes it as being built on two ideas: pushing the creative boundaries of live electronic music, and creating a space where music becomes a catalyst for genuine human connection. The goal is for guests to leave with something they didn't arrive with a new friendship, a shift in perspective, or simply the feeling of having shared in something memorable.

Musically, expect a carefully curated blend of Afro House, Afro Tech, Deep House and melodic electronic sounds from artists known for building emotional, immersive journeys through their sets. The full lineup is still under wraps and will be announced soon.

Founder Zach Sher explains the vision behind the project:

"The Source Collective began with a simple belief that music has the power to do more than entertain. It has the power to move people, connect strangers and create moments that stay with us long after the night is over. We wanted to push the creative boundaries of electronic music by transforming DJ performances into cinematic audiovisual journeys, while creating an environment where people leave with something they didn't have before they arrived. What excites me most is welcoming people into this world for the very first time. This inaugural event is only the beginning of a much bigger vision, and we invite everyone to experience where that journey starts."

The Source Collective is also open to conversations with brands, organisations and creative partners aligned with its vision of innovation, music and community.
