Some spaces are built for moments. Maison Martell was built for memories.
Read that again. Let it sit. Because whoever wrote that line understood exactly what this residency is and what it isn’t.
It isn’t a pop-up. It isn’t a brand activation dressed up in mood lighting. It isn’t another exclusive experience that looks good on a grid but leaves you empty by the time the Uber arrives. Maison Martell, opening Thursday 12 March at Montecasino Fourways, is a cultural residence a rare, fully realised convergence of music, gastronomy, fashion, and one of the world’s oldest cognac houses, all under one roof, all curated for you.
And when we say old,we mean properly, historically, staggeringly old. Martell has been crafting cognac since 1715. While the world was still making sense of itself, a family in Cognac, France was already perfecting the art of transforming grapes into liquid philosophy. Three centuries of mastery. Three hundred years of knowing exactly what they’re doing. And now, that legacy pours itself a seat in Johannesburg.
The experience begins as all great things should with intention. A guided tasting of Martell Blue Swift and XO walks you through what three centuries of craft actually tastes like. Blue Swift: the cognac finished in bourbon casks, smooth and unexpected, the kind of thing that makes you slow down mid-sip and reconsider your entire evening. XO: the crown, the complexity, the quiet authority of something aged to absolute perfection. This isn’t drinking. This is understanding.
But Maison Martell doesn’t stop at the glass.
Because the weekend programme? It is something else entirely.
South Africa’s most powerful artistic voices are in the building. Darque, the man whose sets feel like emotional archaeology, digging up feelings you forgot you had. DJ Stokie, a name that needs no introduction in rooms where the music is serious. Dlala Thukzin, a force of nature behind the decks, the kind of DJ who makes even the walls move. And closing Sunday — closing the whole residency the way only a voice like his can — the breathtaking Langa Mavuso. If you’ve seen Langa Mavuso perform live, you already know. If you haven’t, Maison Martell is your moment of correction.
Then there is the food. And by food, we mean Chef Coco Reinarhz, a culinary artist who has refined her craft in Michelin-starred kitchens and brings every one of those lessons back through an unmistakably African lens. This isn’t fusion for fusion’s sake. This is food that knows where it comes from and exactly where it’s going straight to your soul, via your plate.
And because Maison Martell understands that luxury is a full sensory experience, there is fashion. Specifically, the Bantu Gold limited edition collection designed exclusively for this residency, arriving straight from the New York Fashion Week runway and landing in Johannesburg as wearable proof that African luxury is a global conversation. You don’t just attend Maison Martell. You wear it.
Montecasino’s outdoor event area provides the stage that this residency deserves open sky above Fourways, the ambient energy of one of Joburg’s most iconic entertainment destinations, and an atmosphere that makes every Thursday feel like a Saturday and every Sunday feel like a send-off worth crying over.
This. Is. Not. A. Regular. Night. Out.
This is a cultural event dressed in luxury. And it’s happening in our city, for three consecutive weekends, beginning now.
