Tech Believers: Women Shaping Who Builds, Buys And Benefits

In the modern technology landscape, belief cannot survive on mission statements alone; it is continually tested in venture funding rounds, procurement systems, and corporate governance meetings. Addressing these industry realities, the Innovator Trust presents the Women in Tech Awards (WIT) 2026, held under the theme Tech Believers.

Gathering Africa's foremost tech executives, policy regulators, and entrepreneurs, the hybrid summit explores agentic AI deployment, market access for SMMEs, and the critical need for female authority over capital allocation and policy creation.

Despite women comprising 46% of South Africa’s ICT workforce in recent sector reports, they occupy only 1,351 of 4,700 executive management positions. This disparity impacts investment choices, software designs, and supply chain inclusions across the continent.

"Tech Believers matters because believing in a technology business takes nerve," emphasizes Tashline Jooste, CEO of the Innovator Trust. "A founder has to back her product, hire a team, and persuade customers that her solution will work. A connection made here can put the right buyer, partner, or adviser within reach while the opportunity is live."

  • Nyari Samushonga (WeThinkCode_) & Yashmita Bhana (Nihka Technology Group): Leading software talent development, enterprise cloud architectures, and cybersecurity innovation.

  • Kaluba Chikonde (Livetec Systems): Known as "The Queen of Data," Chikonde deploys production-grade AI platforms and real-time biosecurity alert systems for agricultural management.

  • Nomvuyiso Batyi (ACT) & Heather Irvine: Analyzing ICT regulatory frameworks, spectrum policies, and technological competition law.

  • Cleola Kunene (Equate Trade Finance) & Tanya Briggs (Vodacom): Unlocking SME debt capital and driving B-BBEE supplier development across corporate supply chains.

  • Kim Jayde (KJ Productions) & Ati Ngubevana (Vodacom Group): Expanding African media footprint across 52 countries and commercializing intelligent automation strategies across corporate markets.

  • Mwamvita Makamba (MMConnect Africa Group): Championing inclusive finance, carbon economy ventures, and renewable energy across the continent.

The summit culminates in a fireside session titled The Audacity to Believe, bringing together telecommunications pioneer Irene Charnley and former Public Protector Professor Thuli Madonsela to discuss the courage required to hold institutional authority and lead through complex decisions.
