South African artist, songwriter and creative director M.Phasha has a new single out, and it's an instant playlist add. "Women Like You" is built around a lush, nostalgia-soaked production that recalls the best of 80s and 90s R&B, but the emotional terrain it covers is thoroughly modern the messy, familiar tension between pride, desire and confusion that shows up when you fall for the wrong person at the wrong time.

The Sound

The track is produced by Wolfy Jaywolf, M.Phasha's longtime collaborator, who's been a consistent presence across his recent catalogue including "Batamela" and "Re Tsogile" (the latter featuring uWah). Together, the pair have carved out a signature: a modernised vintage sound, one that pulls nostalgic textures into service of the timeless, love-driven songwriting M.Phasha has become known for.

The story behind the song

"Women Like You" captures a very specific moment the instant ego meets vulnerability head-on. Within what M.Phasha describes as his "villain arc," the song's narrator unexpectedly falls in love and is forced to reckon with an uncomfortable question: why does he keep falling for women who might not be good for him?

"I am excited and grateful to share this new music offering," M.Phasha says. "I believe in creating a body of work that unapologetically amplifies your talent, voice and imagination. With 'Women Like You,' I want the consumer to understand the message and story behind the song while probably also relating to, and agreeing with it."

A sound all his own

M.Phasha's musical palette draws from hip hop, folk, pop, jazz and alternative influences, blended into something that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking grounded in emotion, craftsmanship and authenticity rather than chasing trends.

About M.Phasha

Since launching his career in 2018, M.Phasha has steadily built a reputation on his own terms. His second single, "Coolerbox" (featuring Danny B), spent multiple weeks on the Metro FM charts via DJ Speedsta's Hip Hop Show an early signal of the staying power his music would go on to demonstrate.

He's hosted his own live events at cultural spaces like Mangrove in Braamfontein, taken his music on tour to Cape Town, and, most recently, created intimate screening experiences for his latest run of singles "Batamela," "Re Tsogile" and "Mr Choker Chain" at private venues and the iconic independent cinema, the Bioscope.

It all reflects a mindset M.Phasha describes as his "own way" a meticulous, deeply personal approach that runs through everything he creates, from the music itself to the visuals and the way each release is experienced.
