From Airwaves to Production Boards: DJ Fae Fae Is Levelling Up

If you’ve tuned into YFM on a Saturday night recently, you already know who is. Between 6 PM and 8 PM, the airwaves belong to Faith Makubung, though the streets (and the decks) know her better as DJ Fae Fae.

But as the new radio year kicks off, Fae Fae isn’t just sticking to the script. She’s rewriting the whole damn book. From mastering the technical side of music to diving into the world of beauty, South Africa’s favourite multi-hyphenate is on a mission to prove that "looking good" and "having serious skills" aren't mutually exclusive.

For Fae Fae, All Girls On Deck (AGOD) isn't just a radio show; it’s a movement. By carving out a prime-time slot specifically for female DJs, she’s been methodically dismantling the "boys' club" mentality of the industry.

And she’s not stopping at the studio walls. This year, she’s bringing the magic to the streets with the All Girls On Deck live experience. Think live music, curated vibes, and a spotlight on the incredible female talent that often gets overlooked in festival lineups.

"We are growing a community of female DJs, not only in South Africa, but throughout Africa," she says. "It’s time to recognise our talent altogether because we are here to stay."

You might think a successful DJ, MC, and Content Producer has enough on her plate, but Fae Fae is currently hitting the books at Boston Media House. She’s studying Music Production, determined to add "Producer" to her ever-growing list of titles.

For her, it’s about the craft. She doesn't just want to play the hits; she wants to understand the DNA of the music and eventually create her own. It’s a "level up" energy that defines her 2026 outlook.

The Hustle: Wigs and Wanderlust

Creativity doesn't have a ceiling for Fae Fae. When she’s not behind the mic or the MIDI controller, she’s mastered a different kind of craft: wig-making.

She’s currently enrolled in wig-making classes with plans to launch a dedicated hair business. It’s a natural pivot for someone whose personal brand is synonymous with style.

What else is on the 2026 Mood Board?
  • A Winter Tour: Keeping the decks hot when the temperature drops.

  • Women’s Month Special: A curated project specifically for August.

  • Chasing Summer: Travelling and working globally to unlock the potential of female DJs across the continent.

  • The Birthday Bash: A milestone event that promises to be the party of the season.

Fae Fae is clear about one thing: the aesthetic is great, but the talent is better.

"I want the world to know that yes, we look good, but we really also do know how to actually DJ," she says. With her focus on education, entrepreneurship, and elevating other women, Faith Makubung isn’t just navigating the industry, she’s leading it.

Catch DJ Fae Fae on 'All Girls On Deck', Saturdays 6 PM - 8 PM on YFM.
