#The4thMovement – The Orbit 4th Anniversary Festival

The Orbit Anniversary Festival –  #The4thMovement

13 March 2018

Joburg’s favourite jazz spot is turning four and no better way to celebrate than through a six-day anniversary festival – #The4thMovement.

2018 marks four years of The Orbit’s  bringing you nothing but the best in local jazz. As has become tradition, this fourth birthday will be celebrated with The Orbit Anniversary Festival from 13th to 18th March. During this week, The Orbit will be the center of attraction, as some of the country’s most gifted musicians and arts revelers flock to the venue to celebrate the growth of South Africa’s jazz culture.

“Jazz is smooth and cool. Jazz is rage. Jazz flows like water. Jazz never seems to begin or end. Jazz isn’t methodical, but jazz isn’t messy either. Jazz is a conversation, a give and take. Jazz is the connection and communication between musicians. Jazz is abandon.” ~ Nat Wolff

The anniversary conventionally signifies stability and reminiscent of the excitement when the jazz journey first started. #The4thMovement will be bringing big sounds through saxophones, trumpets, drums, piano and even bigger jazz legends. Celebrating this week will be the legendary Sibongile Khumalo, The Blue Notes Tribute Orkestra, Tlale Makhene’s Swazi Gold, Steve Dyer’s Mantswe a Marabi, and Luyanda Madope’s Connecting Generations.

Extra special about The Orbit Anniversary Festival 2018 will be the reunion of the legendary VOICE after almost ten years since they last performed together. This iconic quintet consists of some of South Africa’s most seasoned musicians such as Andile Yenana, Marcus Wyatt, Sidney Mnisi, Herbie Tsoaeli, and Morabo Morajele.

This year’s festival will also be the first time a brand new band, Trio Grande, will be presented to South Africa. The trio is a coming together of key figures in South African music; Feya Faku, Paul Hanmer, and Louis Mhlanga. #The4thMovement will be closed off on Sunday, 18 March in jazz tradition with a free jam session led by award-winning pianist and producer, Luyanda Madope.
