Bring. Your. Fire! We are weeks away from the 12th Annual MTN Bushfire and this year, it is bringing out all the flames.
Winner of the African Best Responsible Event Award in 2017, hailed by CNN as one of the “7 African music festivals you really have to see,” and listed by BBC as a “Top African Festival,” MTN Bushfire can now add a new accolade to this list, recently named as one of the Top 30 international festivals named on the EVERFEST FEST 300 list.
More than a music festival, MTN Bushfire is a holistic experience made up of a rich texture of arts, cultures, crafts, food markets, and specialized zones that combine to create an explosive three-day event and a memorable take-home experience. MTN Bushfire’s identifies as a uniquely African, and yet globally infused festival experience.
For those unsure of just how to #BringYourFire in 2018, MTN Bushfire is pleased to announce the official Bring Your Fire Zone, an interactive space devoted to specialized activities where all guests can create and share their own #BringYourFire experiences.
Bring Your Fire Zone
This year, MTN Bushfire will be partnering with no less than eight organisations devoted to the promotion of social responsibility. All of these organisations, including Khula Tree Planting, Conservation Music, Young Heroes, STEM, BOMAKE Rural Projects and others will be activating in the space, fostering discussions and igniting social change. The Bring Your Fire Zone will present tangible opportunities to engage within the key themes for 2018 which are:
STEM Education (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics)
Tolerance and Inclusion
Sexual and reproductive health
Orphans and vulnerable children
Every visitor will have the opportunity to take part in a host of #BringYourFire activations that include the following.
Green Your Fire!
As a green festival, with a strong commitment to being an eco-friendly event, recycling will have an increased focus on the festival, including all trader and market spaces.
Plant A Tree with The Khula Tree Planting Project
In 2018 people will have the opportunity to engage in the protection and promotion of indigenous trees by participating in the 2018 Khula Planting Tree Project.
Make Music With Conservation Music
Conservation Music is an organisation that uses music to engage communities across southern Africa in environmental projects and awareness. In addition to hosting a studio where guests can add their voices to various tracks, Conservation Music will be offering guests a variety of ways to get involved.
A host of experts and organisations from within the LGBT space will present a space to proudly celebrate inclusion. From poetry slams and discussion at the new venue The Hub to social and photo booth activations, everyone is invited to take part.
Poetry & Performance
MTN Bushfire is also very excited to announce a performance from Staceyann Chin, a multiple award-winning poet, and performer. She unapologetically identifies as Caribbean and Black, Asian and lesbian, woman and resident of New York City.
Sharing information on sexual and reproductive health. In addition to information and product distribution, Condomise will offer HIV counseling and related services, and host a number of conversations through educational and entertaining games and activations.
MENTOR a Male with Kwakha Indvodza
Kwakha Indvodza is a male mentoring organistion that runs community-led, health and behaviour change interventions with men and boys.
Code & Create
STEM will introduce festival goers to computational thinking, computer science, and technology who will then be given the chance to use a graphic based programming language, and to produce a digital artwork using or through coding.
MTN Bushfire artist line-up reflects the festival’s identity as a uniquely African, and yet globally infused festival experience. Many of these artists will also tour the region as part of the innovative IGODA Southern African Festival Circuit that includes with Azgo Festival (Maputo, Mozambique), Bassline Africa Day (Johannesburg, South Africa), MTN Bushfire (Malkerns, Swaziland), Zakifo Festival (Durban, South Africa) and Sakifo Festival (Saint-Pierre, Reunion Island).
The MTN Bushfire main stage consistently plays host to some of Africa (and the world’s) top artists, featuring well-known and loved favorites, as well as introducing crowds to international artists of the highest caliber.
With additional stages including the House on Fire Amphitheatre and The Barn, DJ focused dance floors, and a range of other activities, MTN Bushfire caters for a diverse and eclectic audience of over 29,000 annually.

There is a variety of ticket and accommodation (camping and glamping) options, as well as special VIP and family-friendly packages.
Camping at any festival enhances the overall experience and MTN Bushfire, with its own campsite leading directly into the main festival space, is no exception. For MTN Bushfire 2018 there are a host of camping options available, whether you have your own equipment or not, and even for those looking for a more luxurious experience.
In an exciting announcement, the main MTN Bushfire campsite will open Thursday 24th May and guests can stay through Monday, May 28th. Additionally, a new luxury camping option is now available for those festival goers looking for a bit more comfort in their camping experience.
